An interdisciplinary team of scientists takes responsibility for the content of the Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe, establishing itself in 1975 as the editorial board.

• Wolfgang J. Mommsen (1930–2004), historian and founding member
• Wolfgang Schluchter (*1938), sociologist and founding member, since 2014 managing editor of the MWG
• Johannes Winckelmann (1900–1985), jurist und founding member

The Editorial Board defined the edition’s rules and design, determined structure and volume classification of the complete edition and chose well-respected scientists for editing the volume–2014s.
