Organization

The Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe is being enabled by the Editorial Board, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and its Commission for Social and Economic History in Munich, and by the publishing house Mohr-Siebeck in Tübingen. The various responsibilities are distributed among these three institutions.

The editing of single volumes of the Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe is decentralized. The volume editors chosen by the Editorial Board employ academic staff and assistants for editing and researching the texts. This work is carried out at branch offices located in a number of university departments: at Düsseldorf (with Frankfurt/Oder), Heidelberg and Munich. Munich houses both a branch office and the general editing office of the Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe within the Commission for Social and Economic History.

General Editorial Office and Special Library in Munich

From 1975 to 2020, the Commission for Social and Economic History of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities supervised the Max Weber complete edition, after which it dissolved in the summer of 2020. The commission provided the institutional framework for the editorial work, which was under the responsibility of the editorial board for content and took place at various institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The general editorial office of the Max Weber Complete Edition was located in the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. In addition to the editorial support of all volumes, it was responsible for administrative tasks and the maintenance of the Max Weber collection that supports the edition with a special library. Some volumes of the complete edition were also edited in Munich.
